Kanna (Sceletium Tortuosum) is a succulent ground cover with fleshy leaves and a bright green color and it is at home in the dry, arid regions of Southern Africa. The San Bushmen have used this plant for centuries as a powerful mood enhancer that gives a sense of calmness and happiness as well as reducing cravings (drug addiction) and withdrawal symptoms. Psychiatrists and doctors have had excellent results for the relief of anxiety/stress ADHD and depression, with no adverse effects like drowsiness or impaired reactions have been reported. A group of alkaloids, especially mesembrine, are the active ingredients in Kanna. - uplift the mood
- decrease anxiety, stress and tension

Long-term use in the local context followed by abstinence has not been reported to result in a withdrawal state. Kanna is not hallucinogenic, and no severe adverse effects have been documented.
